You can register your right to vote at any time before the deadline for the next general election. Once you're on the register, you'll be reminded when it's time to renew (after approxmately 3 years).
For most people it's easy to do and can be completed online and then by email. Alternatively there are paper forms if preferred.
Typically the registration office uses your passport number, previous residential address postcode and your NI number check your eligibility. If you were'nt previously registered or not shown on official records, or it was a very long time ago, you may need to provide additional information to prove your eligibility.
